MESSAGE

There is now broad consensus in the scientific community that global warming has become a reality and needs urgent appropriate mitigation and adaptation strategies to cope up with the threat.  I am happy to know that the Indian Meteorological Society (Chennai Chapter) and  Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai  are  jointly conducting a one day seminar on "Climate Change" on 30th October 2007 at Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, which is co-sponsored by  World Wide Fund for Nature-India, Tamilnadu

This seminar is being arranged as a part of the mandate of the society to  popularize the   science of  meteorology and to increase awareness among different sections of the Society.  Participation of students in this seminar will enhance their ability to appreciate climate change in the right perspective and will pave a  path  for better understanding  of  these issues  and adopt sustainable coping strategies for protecting the environment.  The effort is at most appropriate time  coinciding with award of f ’Noble Peace Prize 2007” to Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change.

I convey my good wishes for the success of the seminar.
