“Advances in Meteorology and Their Applications”

 Recommendations:

• Indian Meteorological Society (IMS) may act as an interface between National Meteorological Agency and various users for sector specific application of meteorological services.  It may also develop linkage with other meteorological societies and NGOs.
•  IMS may encourage meteorologists to write popular books / brochures on various meteorological and allied topics of general interest. This would help to create awareness amongst the public in general and students/ users  in particular.
•  IMS may support development of human resource research and development.
• IMS may take-up a project for feasibility report on commercialization of met.  products.
• Local Chapters of IMS may be encouraged to bring out quarterly newsletters highlighting meteorological advancement in observations, forecasting and applications along with general news on meteorological activities.
•  IMS may continue its efforts for increasing the membership across various stakeholders including the end-users of meteorological information.
• IMS may encourage research projects of special nature through consultancy by scientists in the country & may invite pool of active scientists to take up projects.
• Traditional knowledge of weather and its prediction may be incorporated into R&D efforts along with modern tools.
• IMS may prepare short films / documentary on various meteorological themes for showing in schools / colleges / Farmer meets etc. and interact regularly with electronic and print media for popularization of meteorology.
•  IMS may create a road map on its future activities.
• IMS may continue to encourage participation of students in symposium/seminar etc
• IMS may organize INTROMET  (International Symposium) during 2008-09 in Delhi.
