Meteorology is the science affecting all spheres of human life. Knowledge of weather hazards is essential to take preventive measures for the safety of life and properties. Therefore it is necessary to educate public, school and college students and media to take advantage of benevolent weather and protection from malevolent weather. Specialized courses in Meteorology/ Atmospheric Sciences are offered at the postgraduate level at some of the universities/ institutes such as Indian Institute of Technologies and the Indian Institute of Science. Some aspects of meteorology are also taught in colleges/ universities under Geography discipline, but the awareness regarding operational weather services is a need of the present day.
