Global NWP Model Verification Package

Global NWP Model Verification package implemented in NCMRWF has been adapted from NCEP's (National Center for Environmental Prediction) Model Verification package. The functions of this package include:


  • 1. Computation of model forecast statistics for global NWP model simulations and save the data in VSDB format.
  • 2. Making plots that compute and compare statistics among different model simulations.
  • 3. Make fit-to-observations.

  • The statistics calculated are over 2.50 x 2.50 grids. The outputs from T574L64 and Unified Model (UM) are evaluated. Anomaly Correlation (AC) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) for Geo-Potential Height (HGT), Temperature (T) and Vector Wind (Wind) are displayed. The Anomaly Correlation is computed using the climatology of NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis.

  • SHX - Southern Hemisphere (200 S - 800 S)
  • TRO - Tropics (200 S - 200 N)
  • RSMC - India and Surrounding Regions (200 S - 450 N, 300 E - 1200 E)
